Mission

Freedom of information and transparency laws are essential for a democracy. As part of the Open Knowledge Foundation, FragDenStaat has made it its mission to use its platform to promote freedom of information in Germany.

FragDenStaat is an enquiry platform, they organise participatory campaigns, strategic lawsuits and conduct their own research. With its latest project "Gegenrechtsschutz", they support people who receive legal warnings and are being sued by anti-democratic people and institutions because of their statements, publications, and actions.

The Open Knowledge Foundation (OKF) is a non-profit organisation that promotes open knowledge and democratic participation. To this end, it develops technologies and tools to strengthen civil society. Over the years, the OKF has launched many projects. One of the projects includes the online platform FragDenStaat.

FragDenStaat is the central contact point for freedom of information in Germany. It brings information to the public that was previously gathering dust in file cabinets. Whether it's a lobbyist's email, an environmental report, minutes of a meeting or a calendar entry: FragDenStaat helps to uncover and disclose it with the help of the Freedom of Information Act.
