The program brought together religious, cultural, and social perspectives: from Torah study, challah baking, and Yiddish dance to Krav Maga training, creative workshops, and discussions on the future of Jewish life in Germany. This year, particular attention was also given to mentoring and coaching opportunities for young adults, students, and members of Jewish youth organizations. Topics such as identity, remembrance culture, antisemitism, mental health, and social cohesion shaped many of the sessions and conversations.
Limmud e. V. - Hebrew for “learning” - has been creating volunteer-led spaces for Jewish people of different ages, backgrounds, and religious affiliations for more than 20 years. Its goal is to make the diversity of Jewish life visible and to foster encounters based on openness and mutual respect. In recognition of this commitment, the organization received the 2023 Volunteer Award for Jewish Life in Germany.
For the Alfred Landecker Foundation, initiatives like Limmud are especially important. At a time when antisemitic incidents are increasing and Jewish life in Germany is facing growing pressure, spaces that make Jewish perspectives visible and strengthen community are more important than ever. Open forums for exchange, learning, and discussion make an important contribution to a pluralistic and democratic society.
