With 8,627 antisemitic incidents recorded, the RIAS‘ 2024 Annual Report notes an increase of nearly 77% on the previous year – averaging almost 24 incidents per day. These include eight cases of extreme violence, 186 assaults, and 300 threats.
Israel-Related Antisemitism Predominates, Far-Right Incidents Reach Record High
The report identifies Israel-related antisemitism as the most prevalent form, with 5,857 recorded instances – twice the number reported in 2023. Meanwhile, 544 antisemitic incidents linked to far-right extremism were recorded – the highest figure since 2020.
The surge is particularly pronounced in politicised settings: RIAS recorded 1,802 antisemitic gatherings – an average of 35 per week. Incidents at universities tripled, reaching 450 cases. RIAS also documented 284 antisemitic incidents in schools, including 19 assaults.
The current wave of incidents continues to be driven largely by reactions to the massacre carried out in Israel by Hamas and other terrorist groups on 7 October 2023, as well as the subsequent war between Israel and Hamas. There was no noticeable decline in antisemitic incidents over the course of the year. It is important to recognise that the documented cases offer only a glimpse of the true scale – many antisemitic incidents go unreported or unrecorded.
The Federal Association RIAS sheds light on antisemitism through systematic documentation and amplifies the voices of those affected within public discourse. Through its reporting platform, www.report-antisemitism.de, individuals can report antisemitic incidents – including those that do not meet the threshold for criminal prosecution. This work is supported by the Alfred Landecker Foundation, as part of its broader commitment to tackling antisemitism and strengthening Jewish life in Germany.
